Sonics get Kevin Durant, trade Ray Allen

On June 28, 2007, the SuperSonics’ future changed forever – hopefully, in a good way, of course. With the No. 2 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Seattle picked Kevin Durant out of Texas. This pick was not a surprising after Portland picked Greg Oden, out of Ohio St. as the No. 1 pick.

What was surprising was the trade of Ray Allen and Seattle’s No. 35 pick to the Boston Celtics for their No. 5 pick (Jeff Green from Georgetown), Delonte West, and Wally Szczerbiak. I would have thought that Rashard Lewis was on the trading block, but now it seems that the SuperSonics will re-sign Lewis.

Ray Allen, arguably one of the league’s best scorers, was not the type of player that could bear the burden of leading his team to the playoffs. He was with Seattle for 4 seasons, and went to the playoffs once or twice, I think. So I guess the SuperSonics were looking in a different direction, team-wise, by trading him.

I was never a fan on how Ray Allen arrived in Seattle. Four years ago, he was part of the trade that sent Gary Payton, my favorite all-time SuperSonic, to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Perhaps now they should bring back Gary Payton back to Seattle for some veteran leadership, and hopefully retire as a Seattle SuperSonic.

Is this reason enough to get an iPhone?

Now that my dreams of getting a Blackberry 8830 World Phone from Verizon Wireless are dashed, should I even consider getting an iPhone?

Unfortunately, UC Irvine did not advance in the College World Series, as they lost to defending champion Oregon St., 7-1, yesterday.

It was a good run anyways.  Given the fact that this was their first trip to the College World Series, and that they only started playing Division I baseball a few years ago, this was a job well done!

Zot!

If you don’t know what that word means in the title, then you didn’t go to UC Irvine like I did. “Zot!” is the noise an anteater makes when he’s eating…what else…ants! 😮

Well, it seems that UC Irvine is eating up the competition at the 2007 College World Series going on in Omaha, Nebraska. From an Associated Press story posted on June 19, 2007:

OMAHA, Neb. — That team with a funny nickname is serious about winning a national championship.

The UC Irvine Anteaters won in their final at-bat for the third time in four games on Tuesday night, knocking off Arizona State 8-7 in 10 innings in an elimination game at the College World Series.

The hero this time was Ollie Linton, whose bases-loaded single completed their comeback from four runs down in the eighth inning and extended their first appearance in the CWS.

So after beating Texas in the regionals, Wichita State in the super regionals and neighborhood rival Cal State Fullerton and then Arizona State in the CWS, the Anteaters now take aim at defending national champion Oregon State.
