Here are the specifications:

  • Alienware Area-51M 766 Saucer Silver 15.4″ Notebook Rev 40A7
  • Intel Pentium 4, 3.2GHz Extreme Edition 800MHz
  • Apacer 1.0GB DDR PC3200 SO-DIMM
  • 15.4″ LCD Panel
  • ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro with 128MB
  • Hitachi Notebook 60GB 7200RPM HD
  • 8x DVD+/-RW
  • Windows XP Pro with SP2

Although this laptop is clearly the desktop replacement-type, it not the most forgiving when it comes to mobility. With this configuration above, my laptop weighs about 9 lbs. (with the battery inserted). Furthermore, the Pentium 4 sucks juice like there is no tomorrow. When this laptop was new, the battery lasted about 2 hours. Now it won’t even last 1/2 hour. Furthermore, even though I fly mainly on business class when I go to China, the power outlet in the airline seat is not enough to keep my laptop going. The screen just flickers on and off. I tried to use on of those portable power boosters, but to no avail.

My current mobile phone is a Treo 700w from Verizon Wireless. I’ve had this brick since November 2005. The Treo 700w PDA/Smartphone uses Windows Mobile 5.0, but what I’ve learned is that Windows Mobile is still has a ways to go to match what Palm, Symbian, or Blackberry OS’s do right now.

When my 2-year contract with Verizon Wireless is up in November 2007, I will get the Blackberry 8830 World Edition Smartphone. … I’m counting the days …
